Sally Hershberger Downtown
The Meatpacking District’s Hottest Celebrity Hang-out
For those of you who are looking for an amazing cut paired with an ultra-hip and modern ambiance, then head to Sally Hershberger Downtown immediately. Talent is key at this 1800 sq. foot salon in the heart of the Meatpacking district, with 12 stylists and 3 colorists, all of whom have been handpicked by Sally Hershberger herself.
Sally Hershberger - famous for her high-profile work with such clients as Michelle Pfeiffer, Meg Ryan, and Jon Bon Jovi – can be found at her 14th Street salon most days. Together with business partner Brooke Wall, founder of The Wall Group in New York and Los Angeles, Sally has blended her unique funkiness and downtown chic at her eponymous west side location. Every detail, from her army of stylists and colorists to the artwork hanging on the walls, represents Sally’s dream vision for the salon that carries her name.
“Ultimately, it’s all about the talent,” says Sally, speaking of the group of hair ingénues she has on board. “Just because my name is on the door doesn’t mean that it’s just me.” Sally has chosen an elite core of prominent editorial, runway and celebrity hair gurus to join her team, including colorist Marie Robinson who is responsible for highlighting Heather Graham, Hilary Swank, and Nicole Kidman.
Not to be outdone by the talent is the decidedly minimalist ambiance of the salon itself. Sally enlisted the help of a trio of style experts - interior designer Todd Nickey, architect Brad Floyd, and well-known fashion stylist Lori Goldstein - to create an industrial space that stays true to the urban allure of the Meatpacking district. Drawing inspiration from a photo studio, the space is flush with natural light and little else. Fifteen chocolate brown leather seats (three of which are off to the side and assigned as ‘Sally’s area,’ offering clients privacy) line the space.
Stylists and clients alike can draw inspiration from the array of fashion art Sally has selected for the salon. Two flat screen televisions continuously air runway shows or eye-catching films, while an assortment of vintage fashion books are available for perusal in the waiting area. Wall art includes a giant mug shot of Jane Fonda from 1970 silk-screened hot pink by artist Russell Young, a large Marilyn Monroe by Bert Stern, and a portrait of Cindy Crawford by the late Herb Ritts.
Sally Hershberger Downtown is located at 425 West 14th Street on the 2nd Floor.
